Corrections Corporation Of America Announces New Appointments, Staff Changes In Business Development Division
Posted 02:41 PM on Dec 3, 2008
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) recently announced leadership and staffing changes in its Business Development – Customer Relations division. The Nashville-based company has named Bart VerHulst, vice president, Local and Federal Customer Relations and Brad Regens, vice president, State Customer Relations.
VerHulst and Regens began overseeing both departments, respectively, in a phased transition of leadership resulting from company executive appointments announced this summer. In July, Damon Hininger, former vice president of Local and Federal Customer Relations, was appointed CCA president and chief operating officer. Tony Grande, who formerly served as vice president of State Customer Relations, was named executive vice president and chief development officer for the company.
“Bart VerHulst and Brad Regens both have demonstrated capable leadership and a consistent commitment to the ethical engagement of our company values,” Grande said. “These qualities will serve our company well as we continue providing responsive, high-quality correctional services to partnering agencies on the local, state and federal levels, and adapt to meet the unique challenges facing corrections systems nationwide.”
VerHulst, who formerly served as CCA managing director, Federal and Local Customer Relations, joined the company in January 2007 with a seasoned background in government affairs. He most recently served chief of staff to Sen. Bill Frist. In his role, VerHulst will oversee and develop existing and prospective business at the federal and local levels, as well as oversee the company’s efforts to communicate with and educate members of Congress, Congressional staff and federal government officials about CCA’s federal business initiatives and issues.
Regens, who joined CCA in November 2007 as senior director, State Customer Relations, has more than nine years of experience in public policy and corrections. He served in a variety of key positions for the Arizona Joint Legislative Budget Committee and was later appointed director of fiscal policy for the Arizona House of Representatives. Regens will supervise and advance CCA corrections management solutions on the state level.
The company has also named John Malloy senior director, Customer Relations. In his role, Malloy will be responsible for managing customer relations in the states of Arizona, California, Oklahoma and Nevada. Malloy brings six years of private and public sector experience, having served in a variety of positions in finance and budgeting. Most recently, Malloy served as an analyst for Phoenix, Ariz.-based Stone and Youngberg, LLC, where he assisted municipal governments in structuring debt financing. Malloy also previously served on the leadership team for the Arizona legislative budget office, where he helped the Legislature develop and implement budget policy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Tufts University and his master’s degree in public administration and policy from the University of Arizona.
“We are pleased to have John Malloy join our customer relations team,” said Grande. “His multi-faceted experience provides valuable assets for our organization and will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts as we strive for continued excellence in corrections.”
In addition to the new appointments, CCA’s Business Development division has redistributed the management of some of the company’s existing customers among its senior directors. Kelly Durham has assumed responsibility for Tennessee and Ben Shuster has added Alaska to his management portfolio. Tommy Alsup’s responsibilities will extend to include Kentucky, and Andrea Evans will conduct new business development for Oregon.
“As we go forward into new roles and responsibilities, we are confident that we have assembled a team of highly capable individuals who will put forth the greatest effort in managing current and future business development endeavors,” said Grande.
