Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) Mission Statement

Read first hand here stories and views shared by CCA employees and other citizens on the company and its impact in our communities.

It’s difficult to separate the facts from the reported myths about private prisons and CCA, especially if you follow some news accounts that rely on sources who are politically or professionally biased against the overall privatization of our nation’s prisons.

TheCCA360.com disputes the most common reported myths here.

Vanderbilt Private Prison Research Shows Benefits to States

Posted Dec 3, 2008

Meaningful new prison privatization research has been published.

Vanderbilt University research shows that states which utilize private prisons have slower rates of growth in public corrections per prisoner costs than states which have no privatization.  The report indicates a state not utilizing privatization could save $13-15 million annually by introducing privatization.

We have linked a 2-page abstract of the 40-page study on CCA's website, along with the official Vanderbilt press release regarding the study, and a pdf of the actual study.  You may go to http://www.correctionscorp.com/cca-resource-center/research-findings/independent-studies-prison-privatization/  (on our website, it's in the CCA Resource Center at the top of the Independent Studies on Prison Privatization).

The study inferences that privatization spurs healthy competition and the transfer of industry knowledge to the public sector, thus curbing the public sector's own operational costs (aside from the direct cost savings of privatization).
