Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) Mission Statement

Read first hand here stories and views shared by CCA employees and other citizens on the company and its impact in our communities.

It’s difficult to separate the facts from the reported myths about private prisons and CCA, especially if you follow some news accounts that rely on sources who are politically or professionally biased against the overall privatization of our nation’s prisons.

TheCCA360.com disputes the most common reported myths here.

The Heart of Corrections – Cultivating a Culture and Community of Care at CCA

Some people may believe they have a clear idea of what the culture of corrections is like.

They might have based their perceptions about prisons and jails on movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Undisputed, Penitentiary and Lock Up. After watching shows like Oz, The Wire and Prison Break, they may have typecast correctional employees and inmates, accepting the negative images, questionable activities and duplicitous characters as true to life.

The storylines might be sensational. The plots may keep viewers riveted. And the acting might even be award-worthy. But I have to tell you, these dramatizations are based more on myth than a mirror image of the work we do each day.

Over the past 25 years, we have given rise to a culture based on our own set of commandments known as The CCA Way. These principles govern how we interact with our customers, colleagues and communities. With respect, trust, loyalty and teamwork at its helm, these are the type of down-home ethics our parents, teachers and neighbors instilled in us. It’s all about common sense, good manners and doing what’s right.

With CCA, there is a softer side to corrections. We step in and lend a helping hand during some of the direst times in the lives of our employees and residents of CCA communities. Through our CCAssist Fund, we provide a companywide stronghold of support when those stricken by personal adversity, an unavoidable emergency or natural disaster need tangible help the most.

We provide some relief when the medical bills keep piling up. We offer some respite when the walls have literally come crashing down.

This employee-supported program is just one of our many examples of how our national network of 17,000 colleagues put The CCA Way into action every day. Since its inception in 2006, the CCAssist Fund has disbursed $15,000-$20,000 each month, on average, to employees dealing with tough times. Recently, the Fund has aided nearly 300 employees with $150,000 due to natural disasters, including a major storm in Appleton, Minnesota and Hurricanes Dolly, Gustav and Ike, during which we also provided emergency aid to local communities and partnering agencies. Beyond this groundswell of giving over the last two months, CCAssist typically serves 40 employees every month.

The CCAssist Fund – it’s one of the most private ways CCA proves itself as a company that cares, and one the public deserves to know about.
